Ethiopia Thrives for Peace, Security & Mutual Prosperity in Horn of Africa: President Taye

Addis Ababa, October 7, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia will continue its efforts towards ensuring peace and security as well as ascertaining mutual prosperity, the newly appointed President of the country Taye Atske Selassie said.

Note that Taye Atske-Selassie was endorsed and sworn in as the new President of Ethiopia at the joint opening session of 6th House of People’s Representatives and the House of Federation 4th year tenure this afternoon in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, senior government officials, parliamentarians, representatives of opposition parties, Addis Ababa-based diplomatic community, and other dignitaries.

On the occasion, President Taye announced the commencement of the two houses’ 4th year tenure and presented the federal government’s annual plan for the 2024/25 fiscal year.

In his remarks, President Taye said that Ethiopia did everything for the peace and security of the Horn of Africa.

He added that Ethiopia prioritizes the peace and security of its neighbors and mutual prosperity as well as focusing on regional economic integration.

Ethiopia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Somaliland based on mutual benefit, Taye stated, and added that Ethiopia has done so far to resolve the diplomatic tension.

Besides the efforts of AU and IGAD, Ethiopia is pursuing diplomatic activity to resolve the conflict in Sudan, the President added.

Tangible achievement has been registered with regard to bilateral diplomacy while the relationship with China has elevated into All Weather Strategic Partnership, Taye noted.

He also added that efforts were undertaken to strengthen bilateral relationship with Gulf countries that have political, economic and military capability, it was indicated.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s diplomatic influence in multilateralism has strengthened and joining the BRICS Plus demonstrates that, Taye emphasized.
