Ethiopia signs US$86.18M grant agreements with UNICEF, UNFPA
Addis Ababa, July 18, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia signed an 86.18 million USD grant agreement with UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) and UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) to implement the agencies’ ongoing country program in the 2024/24 (2017 E.C) Ethiopian fiscal year.
Out of the total grant, UNICEF committed 70 million USD to implement water, nutrition, education, health, sanitation, child protection, and gender projects. Meanwhile, UNFPA pledged the 16.1 million USD for family planning, maternal health, adolescent and youth development, and gender equality and woman empowerment projects implementation in the country, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The 2024/25 (2017 E.C) Ethiopian Fiscal Year annual work plan represents the final phase of the current country program (2020-2025) of the agencies, which has been in effect since 2020.
The grant agreements were signed by Ms. Semereta Sewasew, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Mariko Kagoshima, Deputy Representative of UNICEF Ethiopia, and Mr. Taiwo Oluyomi, Deputy Representative of UNFPA Ethiopia.
