Ethiopia signs a long term Country Program Framework agreement with IAEA

Addis Ababa, June 27, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia has signed a long-term Country Program Framework partnership agreement today with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the period from 2024 to 2028.

The agreement was signed by Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, and IAEA’s Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, Hua Liu, during the 35th AFRA Technical Working Group Meeting held in Addis Ababa.

Innovation & Technology Minister Belete Molla emphasized that Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its commitment to enhance the innovation ecosystem, strengthen access to human resources, and increase regional cooperation in nuclear science and technology.

He highlighted the importance of IAEA working together with the African region cooperation agreement and other partners to continue to be the basis for Ethiopia’s growth and prosperity by identifying challenges and utilizing the favorable conditions and opportunities found.

On his part, Hua Liu stated that based on the agreement signed today, results-based work will be conducted in various sectors.

He emphasized that the agency should focus on using nuclear science technology for peaceful social and economic benefits, as cooperation activities have an important role, so the relations should continue to be strengthened.
