Ethiopia set to utilize FOCAC for national interests: Ambassador

Addis Ababa, September 1, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China, Tefera Derbew, has announced the country’s readiness to utilize the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 2024 as a platform to safeguard its national interests.

In an exclusive interview with FBC, Ambassador Tefera highlighted Ethiopia’s plans to engage in various side events vital to reap benefits of the forum. He noted that several preparatory measures, including the preparation of essential documents, have been undertaken to support this effort.

Additionally, the ambassador mentioned that Ethiopian high-ranking officials will have opportunities to present enticing investment prospects in Ethiopia to Chinese investors during these side sessions.

Ambassador Derbew emphasized the ongoing cooperation between Ethiopia and China across trade, investment, and various development sectors, stressing the importance of the forum in advancing these bilateral relations.

The FOCAC 2024 summit is scheduled to take place in Beijing from September 4-6, 2024, with a focus on critical issues such as peace and stability, agriculture, climate, and energy.
