Ethiopia secures 3rd place at A2SV Hackathon 2024

Addis Ababa, October 16, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopian participants achieved notable success at the Africa to Silicon Valley (A2SV) Hackathon 2024, earning 3rd place in a competition themed “AI for Impact – Solving Africa’s Challenges.” They were awarded a cash prize of $4,000.

The event’s closing ceremony took place in Addis Ababa, where youth from 48 African nations showcased their innovations. The Tunisian team claimed the top two spots and received $16,000 in total prizes.

A remarkable 4,928 young innovators participated in the hackathon, which kicked off on June 1, 2024. Organized by Abrehot Library in collaboration with Africa to Silicon Valley, the competition emphasized creative solutions in areas such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.

In the final round, contestants from Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Algeria, and Tunisia were among the top seven finalists. The Hackathon garnered participation from over 1,118 teams from across the continent, facilitated by 47 mentors from leading tech giants, including Google, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Huawei.

Coordinators emphasized that the event not only nurtured creative and technical abilities but also showcased the transformative power of AI in addressing critical challenges across Africa.
