Ethiopia, Russia mulling over signing an agreement on geothermal energy

Addis Ababa, March 4, 2024 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation, Cham Ugala Uriat, stated that Addis Ababa and Moscow are mulling over signing an agreement on geothermal energy sector.

In an exclusive interview with Sputnik, Ambassador Cham Ugala Uriat, disclosed that Ethiopia and Russia are currently discussing the signing of an agreement.

Sputnki quoted Ambassador Cham Ugala Uriat as saying: “Ethiopia and Russia are discussing the signing of an agreement in this field…. We know that Russian specialists are well versed in geothermal energy and we want to strengthen our energy production. The agreement is close; there is even a project that the Russian company Rusgidro wants to work on. Negotiations are now at an advanced stage,”

The Ambassador further recommended that Russia and Ethiopia should start negotiations on the use of national currencies in mutual trade.
