Ethiopia reports record 142 new COVID-19 cases, three deaths in 24hrs
Addis Ababa, June 3, 2020 (FBC) -Ethiopia has reported its highest daily increase in new COVID-19 cases after 142 people tested positive in the past 24 hours.
The total number of confirmed cases now surged to 1,486, while the death toll rose to 17 after three more people died of the disease in the reported period.
According to the Ministry of Health, a 71-year-old woman from Addis Ababa, a 46-year-old man from Oromia, and 40-year-old man from SNNP regional states died of the virus.
In its daily status update, the Ministry said that “out of the 4,120 laboratory tests conducted in the past 24 hours, 142 have become positive for the virus.”
Of the total new cases, 84 are male and 57 are female with the youngest being 7-year-old and the oldest 78 year.
Some 140 of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians, while the remaining two are Portuguese and Djibouti nationals.
Of the total cases, 126 are from Addis Ababa, two from Afar, seven from Oromia, six from Amhara and one from Somali regional states.
Some 15 patients have also recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 246. Ethiopia has so far conducted a total of 120, 429 laboratory tests.
There are now a total of 1,219 active cases in Ethiopia, with 6 of them in a sever condition.
