Ethiopia committed to implementation of NEPAD’s dev’t initiatives: DPM & FM Demeke
Addis Ababa, May 3, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen discussed today with Nardos Bekele-Thomas, the Chief Executive Officer Nardos Bekele-Thomas of the African Union Development Agency – New Partnership for African Development (AUDA-NEPAD).
FBC sources confirm that their discussion focused on the implementation of NEPAD development programs and the role of member states.
DPM & FM Demeke Mekonnen briefed the CEO on Ethiopia’s post-conflict situation, emphasizing the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in war-affected areas.
He appreciated the critical role played by AUDA-NEPAD in supporting Member States in their development endeavours.
Demeke also underlined Ethiopia’s active contribution to AUDA-NEPAD programs that are vital for eradicating poverty and enhancing the economic achievements in Africa.
He reassured the AUDA-NEPAD CEO of the Government’s commitment to the implementation of Agency’s development initiatives.
On her side, Ms Nardos Bekele-Thomas explained the AUDA-NEPAD development programs, vital to achieving the AU Agenda 2063.
She also stressed that resource mobilization is important to achieve these goals.
During the discussion, the CEO pointed out areas such as agriculture, science and technology, and small and medium enterprises as key areas of cooperation between the Government of Ethiopia and AUDA-NEPAD.
