Ethiopia reiterates commitment to peacefully resolve border issue with Sudan
Addis Ababa, January 5, 2021 (FBC) –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to resolve border issue with Sudan peacefully.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti made the remark while giving his Ministry’s biweekly press briefing to the media today.
The briefing mainly focused on border issues with Sudan, the law enforcement operation in Tigray, GERD, and diplomatic activities carried out within the past two weeks.
Regarding border issues, the Spokesperson said Ethiopia believes that war would not be a solution to the problem. Ethiopia has firm stand to resolve the issue through dialogue, he said.
However, the country will undertake concreted efforts to defend its territorial sovereignty, the Spokesperson said.
Ambassador Dina further indicated the start of the trilateral negotiation between Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) after one-month break.
In the meeting convened last Sunday, Ethiopia and Sudan accepted the draft document of the African Union (AU) on the continuation of the trilateral negotiation, a defined role of the AU experts, he said.
