Ethiopia reaffirms commitment to ensure accountability for violations of human rights
Addis Ababa, February 28, 2023 (FBC) – Gedion Timothewos (PhD), the Minister of Justice of Ethiopia, addressed today the UN-Human Right Council at the ongoing 52nd regular session, which started on Monday in Geneva.
In his speech, Gedion expressed Ethiopia’s optimism and determination about the prospect of overcoming the security and human rights challenges it faced and shared with the Council the good news that the people of Ethiopia have indeed opted for peace and reconciliation.
The Minister also highlighted the Agreement for Lasting Peace through a Permanent Cessation of Hostilities signed in Pretoria and the collaboration with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Ethiopia to ensure accountability for violations of human rights and humanitarian law, including the robust implementation of the Peace Agreement.
