Ethiopia Public Health Institute, China’s CDC discuss cooperation on disease surveillance, emergency management
Addis Ababa, June 22, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) held a virtual discussion and reaffirmed their commitment to jointly collaborate on disease surveillance system, health informatics, public health emergency management, food safety, capacity building, research and development, setting up modern laboratories and on other related areas as well.
While moderating the discussion, Ambassador Teshome Toga mentioned that Ethiopia and China enjoy a strong diplomatic relationship and share a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership (CSCP).
He also noted that cooperation in the health and medical sector is one of the major nine priority goals put forth at the 8th Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Ministerial Conference held in Dakar, Senegal last year.
And he called on both institutions to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an umbrella framework to further strengthen their collaboration in the years to come.
EPHI Director General – Dr. Mesay Hailu and the Chinese CDC Director – Professor George Fu Gao have attended the virtual discussion.
