Ethiopia prepares for 2024 UN Climate Change Conference
Addis Ababa, October 15, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia is making preparation for the success of the upcoming 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, according to Fitsum Assefa (PhD), the Minister of Planning and Development.
In anticipation of the COP29 Summit, Ethiopia is engaging with partners and stakeholders to identify its priorities and expected outcomes. The Ministry of Planning and Development is collaboratively addressing preparations for the conference alongside its relevant partners.
Fitsum emphasized that the country is currently conducting pre-assessment activities to effectively tackle the critical climate change issues that will be highlighted at COP29. Discussions are actively underway to prioritize these issues, including climate analysis research aimed at educating children ahead of climate week.
The Minister highlighted the urgency of tackling climate change as a global concern and underscored Ethiopia’s commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing this challenge with input from all stakeholders.
Dr. Abubakar Kampo, UNICEF Representative in Ethiopia, noted that while Ethiopia has made significant strides in combating the impacts of climate change, stressing the need for enhancing awareness and education among children.
