Ethiopia, Portugal discuss potential areas of cooperation in tourism sector
Addis Ababa, December 16, 2020 (FBC) – Minister of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Hirut Kassaw discussed with Portuguese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Helena Malcata on ways of further strengthening bilateral ties between Ethiopia and Portugal.
Dr. Hirut noted that the establishment of the relationship between Ethiopia and Portugal is historical and dates back to ancient times.
She said that Portugal is a country that stood along with Ethiopia when it was in need of support. Portugal is the first European country with which Ethiopia began its bilateral relation.
Dr. Hirut stressed that the current generation shall maintain pass to the upcoming ones the longstanding cordial relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Helena, to her part, said there are a number of areas of cooperation in which Portugal can jointly work with Ethiopia.
Tourism development, promotion of artifacts, sports development, museum management and administration of cultural and historical tourism attractions, among others, are key cooperation spheres in which Portugal and Ethiopia can work together, the ambassador said.
The Portugal Embassy in Addis Ababa and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be signing MoU once potential areas of cooperation are indentified by experts, the ambassador added.
