Ethiopia poised for manufacturing growth, sustainable dev’t: Gerd Müller
Addis Ababa, February 20, 2024 (FBC) – The Director-General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Gerd Müller has praised Ethiopia’s huge potential which he referred as suitable for more manufacturing and sustainable industrial development.
The UNIDO chief said this after his meeting with the Minister of Planning and Development of Ethiopia, Fitsum Aseffa. During their meeting, the Minister highlighted Ethiopia’s current economic and industrial strategy.
Gerd Müller believes that Ethiopia’s potential in the manufacturing sector is paramount to creating good opportunities for millions of young people.
In his stay in Ethiopia, the Director-General has also met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) on Monday. He also signed a Joint Declaration for Tripartite Cooperation on the Establishment of Centers of Excellence in Ethiopia. The tripartite declaration was signed between the Government of Ethiopia, the Government of China and UNIDO.
Furthermore, Gerd Müller also visited the Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa on Monday. During the visit, Müller remarked that the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum not only portrays historical events but also fosters the capacity for collaboration among future generations.
Continuing his tour of the country, the UNIDO chief also visited other newly developed tourist attraction projects, including the recently inaugurated Wenchi-Dendi Eco Tourism Village. He was also briefed on Ethiopian government’s tourism strategy by Minister of Tourism, Nasisie Chali.
After observing the new tourism development projects, the Director General said, “Ethiopia has great plans to develop the eco-tourism industry and creating thousands of jobs while protecting the environment.”
