Ethiopia pockets $216 million from horticulture export in the pas 5 months
Addis Ababa, January 2, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) has announced that over 216 million USD has been earned from the export of horticulture sector in the past five months of the 2024/25 fiscal year.
Following a 5 month performance review meeting, the ministry said some 186,361,000 USD has been obtained from the export of 45,878 tons of flowers in the past 5 months with relative increase from the same period of last season.`
Meanwhile, 30,294,000 USD was earned from the export of more than 121,000 tons of vegetables and fruits, and the income showed a growth of 6.55 percent compared to the same period last year, the ministry announced.
It was indicated that the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom were the top 3 destination countries for Ethiopian flowers during the aforementioned period, respectively.
Whereas, the top three Ethiopian vegetable export destination countries are also Somalia, Djibouti, and the Netherlands.
It has been pointed out that Saudi Arabia, Djibouti and Somalia are the top three Ethiopian vegetable export destination countries, respectively.
