Ethiopia plans to export 230,000 M/T of sesame to international market: Exporters Association
Addis Ababa, November 23, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia is set to export 230,000 Metric tons of sesame to the International Market this year, the Ethiopian Pulses, Oilseed and Spices Processors-Exporters Association (EPOSPEA) said.
EPOSPEA President Sisay Asmare told ENA that in a bid to achieve the goal, the association is highly engaged in various activities to help members increase the production and market of Pulses, Oilseed and Spices.
Among the activities are capacity buildings of exporters to help them compete in international markets, providing supply and demand information of local and international markets, facilitating market oriented discussion forums with members.
He said the association provides adequate and up-to-date information for members about the profiles of international market segments and strategic buyers as well as facilitating export-related services.
The association is also engaged in activities with a view to addressing problems whenever encountered by members, he pointed out.
According to the president, capacity building supports have also been provided to farmers to improve yield and pesticide usage.
Global Pulse Confederation CEO, Randy Duckworth, on his part said Ethiopia produces a very good deal of agricultural products for export to the world, including sesame pulses and coffee that is of excellent quality.
One of the most important points for Ethiopia to be competitive in the global marketplace is to maintain products that are consistent with international standards, for example, sesame to the Middle East, pulses to Europe, he underlined.
Last fiscal year, Ethiopia exported 210,666 tons of pulses to the international market.
The major pulse types that Ethiopia exported during the stated period are soya bean, green mung beans, white pea beans, chick peas, haricot beans, haricot beans, horse beans, black kidney beans, light brown kidney beans, among others.
