Ethiopia plans to eradicate malaria by 2030
Addis Ababa, January 5, 2021 (FBC) –The Ministry of Health has held performance appraisal meeting on the roadmap developed to attain target to eliminate malaria by 2030.
Over the past years, remarkable gains were made in controlling malaria in Ethiopia, said State Minister of Health, Dr Dereje Duguma, during the meeting held in Adama town.
He said the country had joined the global anti-malaria campaign and is currently putting a roadmap into action in 12 zones and 239 woredas of 6 regional states to meet the target.
However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and other challenges, the malaria eradication campaign is not being implemented as expected, the State Minister said.
Dr Dereje underscored the need to identify strengths and weakness observed in the past and find ways to deal with them to eliminate the disease by 2030.
