Ethiopia participating in Green Energy Africa Summit in South Africa
Addis Ababa, October 10, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation headed by Minister of Water & Energy, Habtamu Itefa, is participating in the Green Energy Africa Summit and Africa Oil Week, being held from October 9 to 13, 2023, in Cape Town, South Africa.
In the first two ministerial high-level discussion events, the Minister highlighted the main challenge of Africa’s energy supply, alternative policy solutions, regional cooperation, and the involvement of the private sector based on the questions submitted by the participants.
He further highlighted the efforts that Ethiopia is making in view of the threat of climate change and the overall national future activities.
He mentioned that the renewable energy alternative experience that Ethiopia offers to neighboring countries is to work in cooperation with regard to regional energy integration.
Ethiopia is currently supplying electric power to Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan and Somalia and the recently signed cooperation framework with South Sudan will also be implemented, disclosed.
In relation to climate change, Ethiopia has planted more than 32 billion saplings in the last five years through the national Green Legacy Initiative, Habtamu asserted.
He shed lights on the Green Legacy Initiative, saying, the program aims at protecting and increasing the capacity of underground water.
At the Green Energy Africa Summit, there will be a discussion on the preparations for the climate change conference to be held in the United Arab Emirates at the end of November.
