Ethiopia, Pakistan seek to forge bilateral cooperation in media sector
Addis Ababa, December 15, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Jemal Beker Abdula, had a meeting with Murtaza Solangi, the Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, in Islamabad.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss matters of mutual interest, with a specific focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting between Ethiopia and Pakistan, the Ethiopian Embassy indicated in a press release sent to Fana Broadcasting Corporate.
Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula conveyed a strong desire to commence the collaborative efforts between the state broadcasters of Ethiopia and Pakistan. The aim of this collaboration would be to facilitate the exchange of information and to promote the rich cultures and vibrant tourism industries of both nations.
Emphasizing the importance of a robust partnership, the Ambassador highlighted the necessity of countering hybrid warfare through the dissemination of accurate and authentic information and narratives. He stressed the need for joint endeavors in showcasing the genuine essence of both countries by utilizing mediums such as films, documentaries, and short videos, which would be shared and showcased in each other’s respective nations.
The ambassador said media was not only thriving in his country but also adopting to the modern trends such as digitization of the sector.
He said Ethiopia was a gateway to Africa and could play a key role in connecting Pakistan with Africa.
On the other hand, the minister lauded the economic progress achieved by Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
He also acknowledged the critical role of Ethiopia in effective implementation of the Look Africa Initiative.
The minister proposed different initiatives for strengthening the cooperation between the two countries in media industry.
He assured the ambassador of all-out support in increasing the presence of Ethiopia in Pakistan by assisting the Embassy of Ethiopia in promoting its culture in his country.
