Ethiopia officially launches National Dialogue in attendance of PM Abiy Ahmed
Addis Ababa, June 1, 2024 (FBC) – The National Dialogue Commission has officially launched the National Dialogue process in attendance of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed involving participation of all stakeholders.
Representatives of the general public, political parties, the three organs of the government (executive, legislative, and judicial), institutions and societies are present in the launching ceremony that has taken place at Adwa Memorial.
In his remarks at the launching event, Chief Commissioner Prof Mesfin Araya said that, withstanding several challenges, the National Dialogue Commission is working to bring togetherness and national consensus.
So far, representatives to take part in agenda gathering have been elected from more than 1,000 districts located in 10 regions and city administrations in the country, Prof Mesfin said, adding that the agenda gathering process has also kicked off in Addis Ababa.
The agenda gathering will be commenced next in the regions where election of participants took place and Dire Dawa City in the future and election of participants will also be held in Amhara and Tigray regions, he pointed out.
The Commissioner also expressed his conviction that younger generation will learn more from previous generations and leave a better legacy of peace and progress.
“In order to bring the problems the nation is facing to a national solution,” the Commissioner said, “the Commission will work hard to pave the way for peace for compatriots who live everywhere.”
He underscored that each citizen can bring their agenda to the National Dialogue Commission both privately and in group, Prof Mesfin said, reaffirming that the dialogue will be inclusive, transparent and credible.
