Ethiopia national team kicked off U.S. tour with a 2-0 win over Guyana
Addis Ababa, August 3, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopia national team, otherwise known as ‘The Walias’, kicked off their U.S Tour with a 2-0 win over Guyana national team at the Segra Field Stadium, in Washington D.C.
In the match packed with huge crowd of Ethiopian fans donning the green-yellow-red jersey and cheering their team, the captain Shimels Bekele has scored both goals in the 11th and 76th minute mark.
In their second and last match, The Walias will play against Atlanta Rovers on August 5, 2023, at the Southern Crescent Stadium.
The national team squad members have landed in Virginia this week ahead of their scheduled U.S tour. Befor last night’s match against Guyana, the Ethiopia national team visited MLS side DC United’s Audi Field Stadium, a club partially owned by Ethiopian-American Eyob Mamo.
Expressing his desire for Ethiopian players to play in DC United, Eyob hopes that other Ethiopian players will join the club if they successfully pass their trial at the club and convince the recruiters and the club’s coaches. D.C United is currently coached by the former England captain and Manchester United FC legend Wayne Rooney. Based in Washington D.C, this club competes in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, the top tier of American soccer.
