Ethiopia manages to turn challenges into opportunities: PM Abiy
Addis Ababa, June 14, 2022 (FBC) – Responding to the questions from members of the House of Peoples Representatives, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted the challenges Ethiopia has been facing over the last four years.
“Context is key for understanding the challenges we are faced as a nation.
The Premier said Ethiopia has encountered both manmade and natural disasters that affected scoio-economic and political climate in the country.
The Coronavirus pandemic, the drought situation, the desert locust, the conflict in the north and the international pressure on the country are among the natural and manmade factors that posed multilayered challenges to the country, the Prime Minister underlined.
“These pressures have inevitably had a bearing on what transpires in the country,” the Prime Minister said.
The measures the government has taken to tackle the challenges have brought about positive consequences such as better results in the efforts to ensure food security and self-sufficiency, Abiy noted.
“Although we faced the challenges without institutional readiness, we have drawn lessons from the problems we are faced. And, we have managed to turn the challenges in to opportunities,” Premier underscored.
