Ethiopia, Lebanon discuss safeguarding irregular migrants amid pandemic
Addis Ababa, June 11, 2020 (FBC) – State Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tsion Teklu and exchanged views via telephone with Lebanese Labor Minister, Lamia Yammine on several issues.
During the telephone conversation, State Minister Tsion thanked the Lebanese Labor Minister Yammine for she has sheltered 35 abandoned Ethiopian domestic workers.
The two further discussed how to better help Ethiopian irregular migrants in Lebanon amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
They agreed to work together noting the importance of the recent UN and AU resolutions that forbid mass deportation to deny COVID-19 fertile ground for expansion.
In their discussion, State Minister Tsion noted the current economic challenge Lebanon is facing and said: “That is why Ethiopia gave priority to repatriate the most vulnerable of its citizens from Lebanon.”
