Ethiopia, Kenya renew commitment to prevent cross-border crimes
Addis Ababa, June 15, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Kenya have reached an agreement to jointly prevent terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling and illegal movement of cattle in the border areas, Ethiopian Federal Police said.
A delegation led by Ethiopian Federal Police Chief Commissioner and the current President of the East Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO), General Demelash Gebre-Michael, has paid a two-day official working visit to Kenya.
During its stay, the Ethiopian delegation held a discussion with the Inspector General of the Kenya National Police Service and the President of the General Assembly of AFRIPOL, General Japhet Kume, it is mentioned.
Following their discussion, both sides have reached an agreement to jointly prevent cross-border crimes, especially terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling and illegal cattle trafficking in the border area of Ethiopia and Kenya.
The delegation also held talks with the Kenya National Police Service Deputy Inspector General and Head of Criminal Investigation, Mohammed Al Amin.
After visiting Kenya’s Integrated Command Center and the Forensic Investigation Bureau, the two sides have agreed to exchange experience on technologies.
It was also indicated that the delegation visited the office of the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization HQ in Nairobi and the Counter-Terrorism Center of Excellence.
