Ethiopia, Kazakhstan to cement parliamentary cooperation
Addis Ababa, September 25, 2023 (FBC) – At the initiative of the Ethiopian side, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia, Permanent Representative to the African Union Barlybay Sadykov met with the deputies of the friendship group with Kazakhstan in the Parliament of Ethiopia, and discussed ways of cementing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier in November 2022, the deputies of the parliaments of the two countries held the first meeting during which they agreed to create friendship groups in the parliaments of Kazakhstan and Ethiopia.
In the first half of this year, the sides exchanged lists of members of parliamentary friendship groups. Bethelhem Lakew Sisay, Deputy Chairman of the Human Resources and Technology Development Committee of the Parliament of Ethiopia is a head of Ethiopian delegation.
The Ambassador informed the deputies about the internal political development of Kazakhstan, about the main provisions of the President’s State of the Nation Address, dated September 1, concerning the economic tasks of the government, as well as about the role of Parliament of Kazakhstan in building a fair and hearing state.
B.Sadykov spoke about the foreign policy priorities of our country, noting Kazakhstan’s interest in intensifying both bilateral and multilateral cooperation with African countries, including Ethiopia, which is a symbol of the continent’s independence, the political capital of the African Union, the second economy of Africa, the African aviation hub, as well as the world’s largest landlocked country.
The head of the parliamentary friendship group in the Parliament of Ethiopia expressed great interest in cooperation with Kazakhstan. Bethelehem proposed to organize a meeting of deputies of the friendship groups of the two countries in order to facilitate the practical implementation of cooperation on the exchange of knowledge and technology in the field of agriculture, energy, trade, transport, transit potential, tourism.
In addition, according to Bethelehem, the sphere of education, the organization of internships, as well as interaction within international organizations is of particular importance.
In general, the deputies of the friendship group with Kazakhstan highly appreciated the prospects of bilateral cooperation, as well as the reforms of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev on the construction of a New Kazakhstan.
