Ethiopia, Japan sign $2.7mln grant agreement

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Japan have signed and exchanged notes on “Grant Aid for Economic and Social Development Program /Provision of Rice,” amounting 2.7 million USD.

The objective of the project is to meet the challenges of food and nutrition security in the country by increasing the availability of cereals in the market, meet the heightened need for rice and cope with shortages during this unprecedented time.

On the same occasion deferral agreement was signed as part of Debt Service Suspension Initiative endorsed by the G20 Finance Ministers in April 2020 aimed to help countries concentrate their resources on fighting the pandemic and safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of millions of the most vulnerable people.

The agreements were signed by Yasmin Wohabrebbi, State Minister of Ministry of Finance and Ito Takako, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ethiopia, on behalf of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and on behalf of the Government of Japan, respectively.
