Ethiopia is a model for the whole Africa for great success in agriculture: UNIDO DG

Addis Ababa, January 28, 2024 (FBC) – Director General of UNIDO, Gerd Müller stated that Ethiopia is a model for the whole African continent for the great success in transforming the agricultural sector, which has led to double the wheat harvest and becoming an exporter. Great progress was also made in sectors such as rice, coffee, honey, or poultry production.

The Director General has congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for receiving the FAO Agricola Medal, recognizing Ethiopia‘s outstanding progress in agricultural production, food security, and poverty reduction.

“UNIDO is a strong partner of Ethiopia. We supported the government to establish four agro-industrial parks and are planning a new Centre of Excellence together with China to further accelerate the country’s progress towards achieving our shared goal of zero hunger,” the Director General added.
