Ethiopia is a linchpin for China-Africa partnership
Addis Ababa, May 21, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia is playing a central role in strengthening the partnerships between China and Africa, Minister Counselor Yang Yihang of the Chinese Embassy in Addis Ababa has stated.
Speaking at the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) conference of senior experts in the Ethiopian capital, Minister Counselor Yang Yihang highlighted Ethiopia’s pivotal position in the China-Africa relationship.
Over the past 24 years, the FOCAC cooperation framework has achieved remarkable success across socio-economic domains, and Ethiopia has been instrumental in this progress, Yang mentioned.
Head of Staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the mutual respect that underpins the FOCAC partnership. He noted Ethiopia’s significant contributions to bolstering the strategic partnership between China and the African continent.
Elaborating further, Yang pointed to the growth in bilateral relations, foreign direct investment, security cooperation, and diplomatic activities as evidence of the deepening ties between Ethiopia and China.
The FOCAC conference in Addis Ababa is being held under the theme “Revisiting Ethiopia’s Role in FOCAC and the Way Forward,” underscoring the country’s central position in this crucial geopolitical and economic cooperation.
