Ethiopia, Ireland assess ways of renewing bilateral ties
Addis Ababa, July 14, 2023 (FBC) – Minister of State for Finance, Semereta Sewasew, received the Irish Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Joseph Hackett, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said.
During their meeting, they discussed issues pertaining to strengthening the bilateral relation and development cooperation between the two countries, MoF indicated.
Welcoming the Irish official, the Minister of State stated that his visit to Ethiopia will renew the economic and political cooperation between the two countries.
She also briefed the Secretary-General of the economic outlook of her country and the progress made towards peace and stability following the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
State Minister Semereta also highlighted the various economic and political measures the Ethiopian government is taking to ensure rapid and inclusive growth as well as reduce the impacts of disaster risks such as drought, flood, and others.
Mr. Hackett, for his part, highlighted Republic of Ireland’s experiences in agricultural development and peace-building endeavors. He reiterated that Ireland would continue to share its experience to Ethiopia in this regard.
He also noted that his country has been a good partner to Ethiopia, supporting the health, agriculture, and social protection sectors over the past five years.
Both sides agreed to strengthen their partnership in a new spirit and take it to the next level as the two countries has a long bilateral relation which started back in 1935, as per the Ministry of Finance.
