Ethiopia, Iran vow to further strengthen cooperation

Addis Ababa, January 16, 2025 (FMC) – Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives of Ethiopia, Tagesse Chafo and Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between parliaments of the two countries.

A delegation led by Parliament Speaker of Iran, Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for official visit today.

Upon his arrival, House Speaker, Tagesse Chafo and Foreign Affairs State Minister, Birtukan Ayano among others welcomed Qalibaf at Bole International Airport.

In the course of his visit, Qalibaf is expected to visit various development projects and meet high level government officials to exchange views on issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Iran.

Having received the delegation, Tagesse said that the visit of the delegation would further strengthen the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Emphasizing the longstanding diplomatic and strong sociocultural cooperation between the two countries, he noted that the existing realities and opportunities would foster bilateral ties between them.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Qalibaf on his part reaffirmed to further enhance the bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Iran.

Moreover, the two sides vowed to foster cooperation between parliaments of the two countries, according to ENA. Ethiopia and Iran enjoy strong cooperation in various sectors including trade, investment, tourism and technology transfer.

The two countries have maintained formal diplomatic relations since 1950, it was learned.
