Ethiopia implementing joint initiative for migrants in the Horn: State Minister

Addis Ababa, April 13, 2023 (FBC) – The European Union (EU) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a meeting on Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in Nairobi, Kenya, according to Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.

FDRE’s State Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ayelech Eshete has delivered a speech on behalf of Ethiopia via zoom about the functions and awareness on potential migrants, returnees, migrant protection, physical and psychological support, as well as reintegration of migrants at national level, the ministry added.

The objective of the meeting is to cooperate with state partners and non-state actors provide assistance to returning migrants to restart their lives in their countries of origin through an integrated approach and to reintegration that supports both migrants and their communities, it has stated.

Ethiopia is implementing the Migrant Protection and Reintegration approach, the Ministry further explained.

It also added that the country is working with all stakeholders for migrants and potential migrants to make informed decisions about their migratory journey and sensitize their communities.
