Ethiopia, Germany sign €25m Grant Agreement

Addis Ababa, July 14, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Germany have signed a 25 million Euros (approximately 1.5 billion Birr) Grant Agreement at a ceremony held in Ministry of Finance.

It is stated that the grant supports the Project namely “Strengthening Rural Value Chains in Ethiopia” is aimed to support the improvement of critical rural value chains in the agricultural sector in East Gojjam and Arsi Zones in Amhara and Oromia Regional States, respectively.

The purpose of the Project is to implement climate smart and ecologically sustainable increase of agricultural productivity and market access for high potential rainfed farming systems in the targeted project areas.

The project targets the improvement of the agro-ecological potential for rainfed agriculture, especially cereal and legume production: access of farmers to inputs including seed, mechanization, information systems, extension services, services by actors critical for functioning value chain linkages, research institutes, cooperative, Agricultural Transformation Institute, Universities, seed enterprises, private sector, Improved capacities of Project Executing Agency (PEA) and Project Implementing Units (PIU).

The Agreement was signed by. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of MoF and Christoph Tiskens Director Eastern Africa and African Union KfW Group KfW Development Bank, on behalf of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and on behalf of the Republic of Germany, respectively.
