Ethiopia gears up preparation to become an African innovation hub

Addis Ababa, May 27, 2021 (FBC) – A webinar entitled “Discover Ethiopia: the Emerging Information Technology Destination ” has been held involving participation of American investors, government officials and senior diplomats including Ambassador of Ethiopia to the U.S. Fitsum Arega.

Representatives of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology Ministry briefed participants on the activities Ethiopia has been undertaking in advance to build a digital economy.

Enabling policies and legal frameworks have been put in place as part of the efforts underway to come up with a private sector led economy in the county, officials said.

The revision of the Commercial Code of the land and the rolling out of the investment proclamation are among the historic measures taken by the government in order to facilitate the business environment for the private secotor, it is stated.

The Innovation and Technology State Minister, Dr. Ahmedin Mohammed, while addressing the webinar, said a wide range of activities are well underway to make Ethiopia the innovation destination of the Continent Africa.

Promising results have been attained in line with making the private sector the driver of the economy, he remarked.

The American investors who participated on the webinar have been invited to tap the enabling opportunity in Ethiopia and promote it to the rest of business community in their country.
