Ethiopia gearing up to host a series of int’l conferences this month – GCS
Addis Ababa, October 11, 2024 (FBC) – The FDRE Government Communication Service (GCS) has announced that Ethiopia is gearing up to host several international and continental conferences in the next few weeks.
In her media briefing regarding current state of affairs and the upcoming events, Minister of State at GCS, Ms. Selamawit Kassa, recalled that since the middle of last August, various religious and cultural festivals have been celebrated throughout the country colorfully and peacefully.
These festivals not only strengthened the bonds of the people in the country, but also played a pivotal role in promoting the potential of the vibrant culture and values in Ethiopia, the State Minister underscored.
Building on that outcome, Ethiopia is preparing to host several international and continental conferences throughout this month, Ms. Selamawit pointed out, noting that the ‘World Without Hunger Conference’ will be held from 5 to 7 November 2024.
This Conference is co-organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Government of Ethiopia, with technical assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Confirmed speakers at this event among others include Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Director General of UNIDO Mr. Gerd Müller, Chairperson of the African Union Commission Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, and Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia Mr. Temesgen Truneh.
State Minister Selamawit also said that 1,500 guests from different countries across the world are expected to attend the Conference.
At this global event, Ethiopia is set to share its experiences in food self-sufficiency in the past six years, especially in irrigated wheat production, cluster farming and Green Legacy Initiative.
Meanwhile, the 46th Ordinary General Assembly of Confederation of African Football (CAF) will also take place in Addis Ababa from 19 to 22 October 2024, Ms. Selamawit indicated.
She pointed out that the CAF gathering is of great significance in connection with Ethiopia’s push to host the next Africa Cup of Nations.
On the other hand, the 3rd African Defense Ministers’ Conference, focused on enhancing peace, security, and unity across the continent, will take place in Addis Ababa from October 15 to 19, 2024. The State Minister noted that the conference will serve as an ideal platform to showcase Ethiopia’s central role in peace and stability efforts both within Africa and internationally.
The Minister of State mentioned that participants of the aforementioned conferences are expected to engage in various development activities and exchange experiences during their stay in Ethiopia. Additionally, she highlighted that these international conferences hosted by Ethiopia will significantly contribute to the revitalization of the country’s tourism sector.
