Ethiopia gearing up for digital population and housing census, says Deputy Premier
Addis Ababa, October 30, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia is gearing up for a comprehensive digital population and housing census, leveraging artificial intelligence, according to Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.
The ninth meeting of Statistical Commission for Africa (STATCOM-Africa) is currently taking place in Addis Ababa, centered around the theme “Strengthening the Mobilization of Technical and Financial Resources to Support Innovation in Statistical Development in Africa.”
This three-day forum, which began with expert discussions, now includes attendance from senior leaders and representatives of international institutions.
During the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to transforming its census processes through organized information and AI, aiming to enhance statistical accuracy. He emphasized that “the future of Africa depends on the initiatives and capabilities we establish today,” noting, “Together, we can convert our challenges into opportunities.”
The conference also explored exemplary statistical practices from various nations, while addressing the opportunities and challenges faced by statistical institutions in Africa.
