Ethiopia embracing Sudanese who cross its borders at this trying time: MoFA
Addis Ababa, May 28, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia will, as always, gladly embrace any Sudanese who cross its borders at this trying time, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Many Sudanese are entering Ethiopia as a result of the ongoing war in their country, the Ministry recalled.
It stressed that Sudanese who intend to remain in Ethiopia or go independently into a third country must get an entry visa just like any other foreigner.
However, there is no requirement for a visa for anyone who wishes to stay in refugee camps, MFA Ethiopia disclosed.
It further recalled that an efficient service is being offered at the entry checkpoint in Metema thanks to a task group comprised of the relevant Ethiopian government offices that is cooperating with the UN to make the service more convenient.
In a statement issued last night, the Ministry reiterated that the people of Sudan rightfully consider Ethiopia a second home, and Ethiopia will, as always, gladly embrace any Sudanese who cross its borders at this trying time.
IOM’s report released on May 27 revealed that the number of people who entered Ethiopia fleeing the conflict in Sudan has surpassed 31,000.
