Ethiopia embarks on a campaign towards self-reliance in humanitarian sector: DPM Temesgen
Addis Ababa, June 6, 2024 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, addressing the regular meeting of the National Disaster Risk Management Council, state that Ethiopia has embarked on a campaign to get out of dependence on humanitarian assistance and build self-reliance in sector.
Ethiopia has put in place a new national policy and strategy on disaster risk management, Temesgen pointed out.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen who is the Chairman of the Council noted that pulling Ethiopia out of dependence on humanitarian assistance and building self-relience is at the heart of the national policy and strategy.
Stressing the need to building capacity for risk management, the Deputy Premier called for a more planned and coordinated approach for mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities.
Heads of regional states, ministers, mayors and other high ranking government officials are attending the meeting.
