Ethiopia earns over $83mln from electricity export to neighboring countries
Addis Ababa, June 9, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Electric Power (EP) announced an income worth 83 million US dollars from export of electricity to neighboring countries during the past 10 months.
Moges Mekonnen, Communications Director of EP, stated that during the past 10 months, more than 14 billion ETB was secured from domestic electricity sales and more than 83 million US dollars from power export to neighboring countries. The director indicated that Djibouti, Kenya and Sudan are the countries where the electric power has been exported to.
In addition to Djibouti and Sudan, Ethiopia has started selling electricity to Kenya in November 2023, according to the Communications Director.
The power export to the neighboring countries is part of the efforts to ensure regional economic integration, Moges added.
