Ethiopia, Djibouti vow enhanced cooperation in border security and counter-terrorism
Addis Ababa, January 27, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Federal Police and the Djibouti National Police have reaffirmed commitment to implement agreements they signed so far on border security, counter-terrorism, capacity building and information exchange.
They also signed an agreement to train police officers at the Ethiopian Police University and the Djibouti Police Academy and collaborate in counseling and information exchange.
Institutions reaffirm commitment to implementation of agreements signed between them so far.
Ethiopian Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael said the cooperation between the two police institutions is historic for it is vital to advance bilateral ties between Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The two said they have taken progressive steps in extradition, import-export corridor security and capacity building sectors following the signing of the agreement pledign further commitment to transform their partnership to a higher level.
Saying that security threats posed by the TPLF and similar terrorist groups in the region will not be limited to one country and will affect peace and stability in Africa particularly in the Horn of Africa, Commissioner Demelash stressed need to enhance the partnership.
“Terrorism is an issue that needs to be addressed through cross-border cooperation,” he said.
Colonel Abdullahi Abdi Farah, Director of the Djibouti National Police Force, on his part, said the two countries’ police institutions are committed to maintaining unity and peace in the region, calling for implementation of the agreements for better results.
