Ethiopia, Czech Republic discuss ways to cement bilateral dev’t cooperation
Addis Ababa, October 22, 2024 (FBC) – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Czech Republic held a bilateral discussion on new areas of development collaboration.
Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, highlighting the previous framework has been instrumental in creating employment opportunities for youth and promoting fruit value chains in the southern regions of Ethiopia, noted that the assistance provided in building capacity in water and land management, nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation practices has yielded significant results through knowledge transfer and support for public systems.
Petr Gandalovič, Director of the Department for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance of Czech Republic, outlined the Czech Republic’s commitment to deepening ties and noted that the forthcoming MoU (2025-2030) would focus on three key areas: namely agriculture and rural development, public administration and civil society, and inclusive social development.
The bilateral discussion which has been also attended by Miloslav Kosek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic, and Ms. Zdeňka Šubrová, Deputy Director of the Department of Africa from the Czech Republic, agreed to finalize and sign the new MoU during the upcoming official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic to Ethiopia, which is anticipated to take place in early December.
