Addis Ababa, October 13, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MFA Ethiopia) has congratulated the people of the Nile Basin States on the official entry into force of the Agreement on the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework (CFA) on 13 October 2024.
Note that the Ministry of Water & Energy announced that the CFA has officially entered into force in the early hours of Sunday. The Agreement on the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework (CFA) is a treaty signed by the Nile Basin countries. It aims to promote sustainable management and equitable sharing of the Nile waters among the riparian states.
In light of today’s announcement, Ethiopia’s foreign ministry said that the entry into force of the CFA IS a remarkable achievement that has been in the making for over a decade.
The principles enshrined in the CFA fix historic wrongs, ascertain equitable use and foster mutual understanding and shared responsibility, the Ministry stated.
The dedication, perseverance, and collaborative spirit displayed by state parties throughout this process would, no doubt, enhance cooperation and provide the impetus to realize the equitable and reasonable management and utilisation of the shared water resource.
The foreign ministry underscored Ethiopia is confident that the entry into force of this agreement will yield significant benefits for the basin states and contribute to a more prosperous and sustainable future.
