Ethiopia condemns assassination attempt on Sudan’s PM
Addis Ababa, March 9, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has condemned an attempt to assassinate Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in the capital, Khartoum today.
“I denounce the assassination attempt made on Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok earlier today,” the Prime Minister said on Twitter
“The people of Sudan have paid a great price and taken admirable steps towards maintaining peace.”
“Such incidents need not derail the process and path begun in ensuring the stability of Sudan.”
Prime Minister Hamdok was appointed to head Sudan’s transitional government last August, a few months after the overthrow of long-time President Omar al-Bashir.
It is not yet clear who carried out the attack.
The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, also condemned in the strongest terms the assassination attempt.
Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok is also the current Chair of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
