Ethiopia committed to continue strengthening partnership with IOM: MFA Minister of State
Addis Ababa, May 19, 2023 (FBC) – Ambassador Mesganu Arga, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Abibato Wane, the International Organisation for Migration (the UN Migration Agency) representative in Ethiopia, to discuss Ethiopia’s relationship with the organisation and ways to strengthen it.
Ambassador Mesganu said that Ethiopia, as a country that receives and hosts a large number of refugees as well as internally displaced persons, closely works in cooperation with the the UN Migration Agency, alias IOM.
He confirmed that the Ethiopian government will support the IOM in solving the global migration problem. The two sides also discussed the possible conditions for supporting Ethiopian migrants in various countries where conflict is active.
Abibato Wane confirmed that the IOM will continue to strengthen its support for internally displaced people and migrants. She appreciated Ethiopia’s commendable deeds in welcoming migrants.
Reiterating that there is a growing relationship between the Ethiopian government and the IOM, the two sides affirmed that they will continue to work together and cooperate.
