Ethiopia committed to continue fulfilling obligations to further strengthen IGAD: Envoy
Addis Ababa, December 10, 2022 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Djibouti and IGAD, Berhanu Tsegaye, expressed Ethiopia’s continued commitment to keep fulfilling its obligations to further strengthen the regional organization at the IGAD 2023 Annual Budget Meeting of member states, ministerial experts, and the Committee of Ambassadors being held in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, from December 7–9, 2022.
In his remarks, Ambassador Berhanu praised IGAD’s tremendous efforts and achievements in promoting peace and stability, coordinating response efforts for a wide range of natural and environmental disasters, and overcoming financial challenges.
Ambassador Berhanu reiterated that Ethiopia will continue paying its annual contribution promptly and accept the proposed 10% increament of the organization’s budget to be raised from member states.
In the end, Ambassador Berhanu called on IGAD member states to pay their annual contributions and arrears on time.
The meeting was concluded by adopting the proposed budget proposal for 2023, as per MFA Ethiopia.
