Ethiopia, China committed to elevating their multifaceted bilateral cooperation to new heights
Addis Ababa, July 11, 2024 (FBC) – Mr. Melaku Alebel, Ethiopia’s Minister of Industry, and Mr. Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of China International Development Agency, held a productive bilateral discussion in Beijing today, the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing confirmed.
On the occasion, Mr. Melaku Alebel firmly asserted Ethiopia’s commendable economic achievements in various fields, stating that his country has successfully created numerous job opportunities for the youth.
He highlighted the implementation of multiple impactful projects that are effectively driving the economy forward.
Additionally, Mr. Melaku Alebel stressed the critical role of the China International Development Cooperation Agency in expediting the completion of ongoing projects in Ethiopia.
According to him, Ethiopia’s economic reform is unequivocally on the right track and expressed unwavering commitment to providing substantial investment opportunities for international investors, with a particular emphasis on encouraging Chinese investors.
Melaku also provided a comprehensive explanation of the promising achievements in fields such as mining, agriculture, and manufacturing, while also extending an invitation to potential Chinese investors to consider opportunities within these sectors.
Furthermore, the minister underlined the priority areas where partners’ intervention is crucial to address gaps, using Ethiopia’s green legacy initiative as a prime example. He also emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing global challenges through joint actions. Melaku went on to call upon partners, including China, to collaborate in addressing global challenges through coordinated planning and consultation.
Mr. Luo Zhaohui, on his part, expressed China’s strong commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economy across all sectors. He noted that the significant efforts have been made to train professionals, enhancing their capacity to play a leading role in strengthening Ethiopia’s Economy.
He also emphasized that numerous projects have been implemented to support the country’s ongoing economic reform. Both parties affirmed their commitment to collaborating on matters of mutual interest and shared concern.
Similarly, a trilateral consultation meeting was convened by Mr. Melaku Alebel, Mr. Luo Zhaohui, and Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Mr. Gerd Müller. During the consultation, all representatives emphasized the importance of fostering mutual cooperation to address poverty and underdevelopment.
They also reached a consensus to allocate funding for projects aimed at bolstering economic development.
Ultimately, they collectively signed several documents aimed at fostering mutual cooperation in key areas such as knowledge and technology sharing, with the goal of shared development and prosperity, as per the Embassy.
