Ethiopia bids farewell to beloved singer Madingo Afework
Addis Ababa, September 29, 2022 (FBC) – Thousands of people across Ethiopia have mourned the death of the revered singer Madingo Afework in a state farewell ceremony held at Friendship Square in the capital, Addis Ababa.
Public figures, renowned artists, government officials and families and fans of the artist have attended the farewell ceremony.
Addressing the mourners, Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Adanech Abiebie, lauded the outstanding contributions of the renowned singer Madingo in times of need at the national level apart from his indispensable role for the growth of the music industry.
Prominent public figures and fellow singers delivered keynote speeches in paying tribute to the famous vocalist.
Prolific career of Madingo Afework who joined the industry in his early nineties spanned more than close to three decades, during which he lent his unmistakable voice to the music industry of Ethiopia.
Finally, Madingo was laid to rest at Holy Trinity Cathedral in the capital Addis Ababa in a funeral ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen and other high level government officials, thousands of residents of Addis Ababa, public figures, artists, families and fans of the singer.
