Ethiopia, Bahrain vow to enhance trade ties
Addis Ababa, October 20, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Consul General in Bahrain, Ambassador Shiferaw Geneti, met with Bahrain’s Minister of Agriculture and Municipality, Wael Bin Nasser Al Mubarek, and Undersecretary for Animal Wealth Resources, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Hassan.
In their meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of exporting Ethiopian agricultural and animal products to the Bahraini market, and of establishing cooperation between Addis Ababa and Manama.
Ethiopia is not only the birthplace of multi-flavored coffee beans but also a well-known producer of oilseeds, horticulture, spices, and other agricultural produce, Ambassador Shiferaw noted.
He also stated that Ethiopia exports various agricultural and animal products, spices, and grains to Europe and the Middle East.
While mentioning that both Bahrain and Ethiopia are members of the World Animal Health Organization, the Minister expressed willingness to host various trade activities, including a virtual workshop to promote Ethiopian products in Bahrain, which, in turn, would boost trade between the two countries.
The possibility of freighting Ethiopian agricultural products directly to Bahraini markets was also discussed due to their geographical proximity, it was indicated.
Considering the fact that Addis Ababa is a seat for different international and regional organizations, both sides agreed to enhance the cooperation between Addis Ababa and Manama cities in the trade and tourism sectors, per MFA Ethiopia.
