Ethiopia, Bahrain eye high-level officials’ visit to buttress bilateral ties

Addis Ababa, June 13, 2023 (FBC) – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Bahrain are considering to facilitate high-level officials to and from both countries to scale up bilateral relations.

The Consul General of Ethiopia to Bahrain Ambassador Shiferaw Geneti, held a discussion with Ambassador Ahmed Mohamed Al Teraifi, the Chief of Africa & Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain.

During the meeting, both dignitaries discussed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), bilateral ties, trade, and investment engagements between the two countries.

They also advised regarding the progress of the proposed employment agreement to be signed the two nations.

Ambassador Shiferaw emphasized that the issues pertaining to the equitable utilization of water and GERD should solely be addressed under the auspices of the African Union.

For his part, Ambassador Ahmed revealed that since Ethiopia is the seat of the African Union and the gateway to 54 countries of the continent, his office will work with the Ethiopian consulate to strengthen trade and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

He underscored that the signing of the employment agreement is of great importance to the two countries.

Ambassador Ahmed added that his country has confidence in addressing the issues pertaining to the Grand Ethiopia Renaissance Dam through discussions with the downstream countries under the aegis of African Union.

Finally, both sides agreed on the need to facilitate high-level officials’ visit to the respective countries to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
