Ethiopia, Azerbaijan sign MoU to enhance public service sector efficiency

Addis Ababa, May 14, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Azerbaijan have signed a Memorandum of Understaning aimed at realizing a more efficient and accountable public service sector, while also paving the way for the implementation of additional collaborative works.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh, who is currently visiting Azerbaijan, remarked on his social media page, “Our first day in Azerbaijan has laid the groundwork for joint development across various fields and the strengthening of ties between our nations.”

During the visit, Temesgen met with Ulvi Mehdiyev, the Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAPSSI) and discussed on the provision of quick service through digital means that has great importance for Ethiopia to benchmark the experience.

Elaborating further, Temesgen noted that the MoU signed between the two countries specifically aims to “realize the efficient and accountable system of the public service sector and to implement additional works.”

He also announced that Ethiopia and Azerbaijan have agreed to work closely to ensure a strong civil service system and implement advanced initiatives with the help of digitalization, building upon the comprehensive reform works already underway in Ethiopia.

Temesgen highlighted that Azerbaijan has made impressive strides in implementing digital services, particularly in the realm of skill development institutions and modernized civil service access. “The institutions we have toured and visited are a testament to the country’s advanced level of digital system implementation,” he observed.

This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of Ethiopia and Azerbaijan to leverage innovative approaches and digital technologies to improve public service delivery and governance for the benefit of their citizens.
