Ethiopia and Djibouti forge partnership to combat terrorism in the region
Addis Ababa, December 29, 2024 (FMC) – A delegation led by Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Gedion Timothewos, engaged in discussions with Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, focusing on bilateral and regional matters.
Gedion emphasized the enduring relationship between Ethiopia and Djibouti, highlighting it as a model of successful collaboration in the region. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s active role in promoting peace and stability and reiterated the country’s commitment to combating Al-Shabaab, the terrorist group responsible for numerous attacks in the area.
Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf praised the strong bonds between the two nations, rooted in shared cultural ties, and expressed optimism for the continued enhancement of their partnership. He conveyed his gratitude to Ethiopia for its peacekeeping efforts and confirmed Djibouti’s alignment with Ethiopia in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
The two leaders also explored avenues for cooperation in areas including economic, trade, and port services.
